Protestors interrupt concert at Philharmonie but orchestra and András Schiff play on.
The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra's concert at Philharmonie de Paris faced multiple disruptions this evening amongst ongoing protests.
Last week, the Confédération Générale du Travail issued a statement saying the concert could continue only if the audience was reminded of claims against the Israeli government, as reported in Slipped Disc.
During the first half of the performance, four separate protestors stood up screaming. In one incident, a section of seating caught on fire, prompting a response from firefighters.
Despite the interruptions, the musicians completed Beethoven’s Fifth Concerto as planned. Security and police maintained a heavy presence throughout the hall, lining the aisles like ushers and surrounding the venue.
Pianist András Schiff concluded the first half of the concert with a Chopin waltz, earning a standing ovation.
Park Avenue Pianos Managing Partner and Pianist Ronen Segev attended the concert and captured these video clips.
